Reception Curriculum
At The Holme we follow the required Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This is a play based curriculum which is can accommodate the individual needs of children. The curriculum is organised in such a way as to capture and develop the children's own interests whilst ensuring a rich and balanced range of activities and skills are introduced. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning. As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas.

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. We will be supporting your child and planning a very flexible curriculum to make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs and interests. Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. We are interested in how children learn and want to give children opportunities to develop and show the Characteristics of Effective Learning which are;
We are currently in the process of developing our newly enlarged outdoor provision area to further engage the children with their learning within a safe and stimulating environment.
We communicate with parents through the use of our online journal, Tapestry. We can show pictures and videos of what your child has been doing during the day and set homework and send out reminders. Parents can upload pictures and news from home.
Phonics
The children are introduced to the important skills of reading and writing using the Read Write Inc programme in Year R which has proved to be highly engaging, popular and successful introduction to systematic, synthetic phonics.
